What I mean is, there is an obvious problem of people using their credit cards to levels way beyond their means. I blame credit card companies banks for making these higher levels of credit too readily available, and for having such highly jacked up interest rates that are way beyond fair.I also blame people who seem to show absolutely no ability to reason with how much they can afford to spend. Just because you have a chance to spend a lot of money on credit doesn't mean you should. I've been there, so if that sounds like I'm pointing fingers, I'm pointing it at myself as well. What say you?However, using the car analogy, if Ford made their model cheaply and the brakes didn't work, I would blame them for my fender bender. It's not black & white.

I have received a Summons to appear in Superior Court in California for $7k of unpaid consumer debt plus interest and attorney's fees. The complaint was filed as a " limited civil case." The court date is not until June, but the summons said I have 30 days to file a written response to the court and have a copy served on the plaintiff.I do not disagree with the debt. However, I cannot afford to pay it all at once. Is it possible to try and negotiate a payment plan with the creditor? Or is it too late once they've filed suit? Is it better to deal with them directly or with their attorneys?I can't afford an attorney and am trying to figure out how to file the response on my own, through the court forms available online. I would appreciate any advice from people with experience or knowledge with this process. Thank you
