If credit counseling doesn't help clear the negativity on your credit report, what can you do?
I have bad credit and want to fix it up so I can get a mortgage. I made many mistakes when I was younger and caused my credit score to sink. My lesson has been learned and I make payments on time for everything I have now. I'm sick of renting and want my own house. I read that credit counseling will get rid of your debts, but it will not remove the the negatives on my credit report and my score will not go up much, if at all. What can I do to get my credit score up so I can qualify for a mortgage?

Hello all My credit is terrible. After the sudden loss of my husband and a voluntary reposession, I am in a terrible credit situation. I would like to eventually purchase a home for my children but I have such terrible credit with so many little things on it from medical bills to old CC's that I really see no way out. If you were me, would you Try to sort out the mess line by line and pay each creditor off individually 25 items . This could take years. File Chapter 7 i'm a widowed mother and would qualify based on my income and wipe it all out and wait for 2 years before trying to purchase a home. File Chapter 13 which requires that I pay a % of the debts back over a 3 5 year period I would qualify for a home loan in 12 18 months versus the 2 years and I will have made at least some effort to repay my debts. Do nothing and continue to rent and make my landlord rich?Before you reply, I do not need to be preached to or made to feel bad about the choices I've made. I realize that some of the reason i'm in this mess is due to my own choices, but some of it also had very little to do with me. I could not control the death of my husband, nor could I have imagined that the insurance company would not pay for or accept responsibility for the hidden damaged caused by my car accident. A small crack in my engine grew and my engine eventually died. I had no choice but to replace the engine and keep the car or have them pick it up. At the time, I did not have 5 8k lying around for another enine and the insurance company refused to help. Please give me your honest advice.

my mom and dad separated they haven't divorced in order for him to get insurance from my mothers job and other convenient stuff. my brothers and I live with my dad, in the house my dad and mom own but my dad is the one that pays the mortgage. my mom pays rent where she lives . she has over $22,000 credit card debt and she only makes $11,000 a year after deductions. she only makes minimum payments on the credit cards. if she seeks debt consolidation services , will that affect my dad, his credit, and the house?

I have 5 credit cards that are maxed out and have been for a well. I was considering credit Counseling services. I have heard that these places don't require you to declare bankruptcy but my mom is concerned that they will. So do they? Also I'm engaged if I get into the credit counseling when I get married will it affect my fiances good credit if I get into the program before we marry? Also what do they need because I don't receive the bills anymore. Can i just give them the numbers and how much i owe and go from there?
