How do I get debt collectors who are trying to collect someone else's debt to leave us alone?
A local university keeps calling my husband to collect tuition payments.... the problem is, he never attended that college and therefore does not owe them any money. It appears that they are looking for another person with the same name. We have told them this, and they always say OK and apologize, but we keep getting calls. I don't think this could end up on our credit since it is probably linked to the ssn, but you never know. They call at least twice a day and it needs to stop. We shouldn't be harrassed because someone else doesn't pay their bills
How did these debt collectors find my address?
So I have recently moved because of the military and somehow 2 debt collectors found out my address. I monitor my credit report and no one has reviewed my credit report sense the move, so they couldnt have gotten it from there. Any ideas?? I plan on paying these debts soon but I just didn't want the collectors to know I am in the military.
Is it worth "settleing" with credit card debt collectors>?
My wife payed the reduced " settlement" amount to a collection agency for an old Capital One credit card in February. She thought the account was settled and closed as they said in their letters. Now in July she receives another notice offer regarding the same account from an entirely different collection agency I don't trust these outfits. How do you know they are properly recording anything on your behalf that will help your credit rating.
What happens if debt collectors report to credit bureaus and I currently have no credit to begin with?
I had an account with Directv for about 7 months. I began having issues with the company and decided to cancel my contract early and switch to another cable provider. It cost over $400 when it was all said and done to complete the process of termination. 2 weeks later I received an email alert from directv stating that I owed another 49.99. I called to argue that the balance was 0$ when I last checked, and a representative said that because I ordered a fight the first week of having the service and did not connect the cable box to the interenet, the fight was charged to the box and not the bill, so when I mailed back the box, the fight was on there unpaid. To my surprise this was true, but also upsetting because I could barely afford the $400 to cancel. Well, I didn't have the money to pay the $50 and needed more time. A month has passed, I called Directv and they said the bill has been sent to collections. I have not recieved any letters in the mail from anyone. I also don't have any credit to begin with never owned a credit card, car payment, etc . So If I have no credit, what happens when collections reports to the bureaus? If I pay the bill will it solve everything or make any difference?Thank You very much
Can the income I earn through my SMLLC or LLC be protected from debt collectors?
Most of my student loans are private and borrowed from commercial banks. Only a few of my loans were borrowed from Federal Student Loans. I'm actually concerned with the private student loans borrowed from the commercial banks.I have no problems with my Federal Student Loans as they are reasonable and they really work with graduates to be able to afford payments on loans. I would be working as an Independent Contractor with my SMLLC. Or should I start a regular LLC to better protect my income earned through my business work?
When paying debt collectors...?
Will they remove or report to the credit bureaus that I have paid the debt whether it's in full or settled ? They do so much lying as it is, what should I do other than pay the people ? I was thinking to just go through a consumer credit counseling, since I feel they'll be able to deal with that aspect of the the debt.
Debt Collector Repeatedly Calling My Mother Who I Haven't Lived with In 15 Years. Can We Sue Under FDCPA?
Let's get one thing out of the way first Self righteous pricks " Why don't you just pay your bills blah blah blah" I know you morons always lay in wait for any credit related question to say that, so now you don't have to waste your time saying it, and can go polish your quarters and masturbate to your 750 credit score. So, for those serious about providing good information, I have a defaulted credit card account from several years ago. A debt collector has started calling my mother, who lives in another state, who I have not lived with for 15 years, on her cell phone. I certainly did not list her as a reference or contact for the account in question. The only time I might have ever listed her would have been for student loans and a car loan maybe 10 years ago. I'm not hiding out, and my current address is on my credit report, so they have means to contact me. She has told them that I do not live with her, but they continue to call her. Is this a violation of the FDCPA and can the debt collector be sued?
Debt Collector Question...here's the deal.?
Ok. My hubby had a old Credit Card that got him in trouble. He was younger and not as responsible with his money. The card was opened up 5 years ago. He was just contacted A police officer came serving him with papers from a Lawyer about the debt giving him so many days to pay However they of course were demanding a big amount over the origional amount. A few days later a letter from a collection agency came saying they would settle the debt for " x" amount of dollars. Approximately 1 2 the amount the other law firm was demanding. So he made a payment by phone, was assured the debt was put to rest, we have a reciept from the company in hand. Two days ago the law firm had at it agian. Sent a summonds to my husbands place of business and when he demanded to know why they couldn't answer. They say he still owes this money, that they " own" his old account and its not closed until THEY are paid. Anyone had to deal with this before? And if so what was done???? Who is right ?? Note we have a friend that is a lawyer and he is overlooking this for us as well. Thanks so much...answerer..hahah That makes me feel so much better
Debt collectors keep calling my parents phone?
I fell behind on a few credit card payments after a pay cut at work. Naturally, I started getting calls from debt collectors. I have since gotten a second job, thus more income, and signed myself up for a debt relief program. I have gotten notice from each of my creditors approval of the program I am participating in, and the calls have stopped except from one bank. Even though they are aware of my participation in the program, they are still calling me all day every day. This is annoying enough on its own, but I found out that they are also calling my parents house for me. They have already told them that I don't live there and to stop calling them, but it hasn't worked. They say they can time the calls like clockwork, they are even leaving messages on their answering machine about my account. I pulled up my contact information for my account, just to be sure I hadn't forgetten to change all my numbers after moving, but everything is current. How can I get them to leave my parents alone, and myself, seeing as I am in the process of settling my debt?
I have recently been contacted by Debt Collectors in that state of Massachusetts. What are my rights?
They have referred to me as a Momma's Boy, and have threatened implied that they will to make my life very difficult. I have asked to speak to a higher up at which point I am promptly denied. I offered to make $100 payments as often as possible, but have been denied and have been flagged as not willing to pay. What are my rights? My debt is under $3000 dollars In addition, they have discussed my full financial debt with my mother without my permission. I am 23 It is from Tuition. I have been in collections for 6 months, apparently.
Debt Collectors and what they can seize?
Can debt collectors seize debtors' retirement funds e.g. stocks, bonds, CDs, IRAs, profit sharing, investments, etc. ?So does it depend on your state laws? Is there a website that explains this?
Debt collector help please?
i have a debt from TXU energy..they then forwarded my debt on to a company called NRS. ive paid about 300 dollars off and still owe around 750..i've made my payments on time until today when i called and asked for an extension as things are tight for me right now..they started yelling at me and told me to call friends and family and ask for money and told me to go take out a pay day loan and said i better figure it out..so obviously i said no and told them i'd talk to them later....anyhow, they made me so mad i want to just send them a cease and desist letter and they can just send me something in the mail or offer me a settlement..i called txu and it looks like this company is giving txu the money at least so far that i pay them..it is, however, NOT txu now, its a debt collector..so my question is whether a cease and desist letter would work and make it to where they have to leave me alone? any advice related to this cease and desist idea is greatly appreciated..
Debt collectors are threatening to sue...is this legal?
I owe them 2,500 dollars and they said that there is a civil suit against me. I am in California so I don't know the laws here for debt collectors. Apparently I haven't made payments in a year...can they really take me to court and sue me? what should i do?isn't it supposed to be 4 years in CA that they have to wait?correction...they told me that this is an out of court settlement and no lawsuit has been issued.
Are these Debt Collectors Legit ?
Robinson Way Limited , They just seen wrong. All letter sent from them are different different logo's different structure everything looks different Plus the imaginary debt is from 13 years ago and is apparently a simple catalogue debt which should of been written after 6 years. Why am i being bombarded now aswell 13 years later for a debt that isn't mine I think its from the family who moved in after me. I said the debt isnt mine now they are threatening court action Are they just trying to make me pay? Plus everyway to pay the debt back is by card which seems dodgy to me. The debt is from my old house , i think someone somehow bought something in my name there I also asked for proof of the debt and they refused to give it to me I also asked for proof of the debt and they refused to give it to me
