I owe on 3 credit cards. One is starting to fall behind on the payments as its too much to pay. Which route is the way to go? Debt consolidation or contacting creditors & explaining that I was living beyond my means & now I am having trouble paying. On the one card I'm having trouble with Chase , my monthly balance is $299 but I can afford to pay $180 a month to them. I've heard horror stories where people get the WORST treatment when they try to set up payment plans with credit card companies. Do most companies decline an offer of a payment arrangement? I can get back to more payments in January or February but now is hard.

If my company credit card goes to collection can I use a debt consolidation service to pay it off?
I ended up using my company credit card for personal use while on medical leave. I was not able to pay it off completely right away and it was sent to a collection agency. I have a very nasty debt collector calling me all the time now which is to be expected but her story seems to change so I'm not sure if she's being honest or using scare tactics.I contacted a debt management program and am working on paying off the debt over the next 12 months. Meanwhile, this woman keeps calling me and now she's apparently according to her latest voice mail set up a conference call with my corp office tomorrow. I'm just wondering if there's some reason using a lump sum settlement won't work on a corporate card?
If I use a debt consolidation service to help pay off my cc's, why would my credit report take a negative hit?
They told me if I use their help, I'd get lower interest rates, and get paid down faster, but my report would show negatively because I closed out the cards. Does anyone know why this would show negatively or have any other suggestions? Thanks
Bankruptcy vs. debt consolidation service - which is better - I just lost my job of 11 years?
I was just laid off and am thinking about filing bankruptcy on my approx. $17,000 credit bills debt and let my home forclose approx. $75,000 owed OR do a debt consolidation service on the $17,000 with out my home and just see what happens. I am scared as there are no jobs in Michigan making near what I made before being laid off. Please help
