I need serious weight loss advice?

Question: I need serious weight loss advice?

(Posted by: shutupashleigh on 2010-01-08 09:17:28)

A little background information: I am about 17 lbs overweight. When I gain weight, it is all in my stomach area. My goal weight loss would be about 30 lbs, to be at a comfortable healthy weight. I am in my off season from the sport I play (volleyball), and I'd like to achieve my weight loss goal in 2 and a half months. My question is what are the best cardio workouts to receive the maximum weight loss possible? I plan on walking long distance, and some running when the weather isn't 30 and below outside. I have weight and core exercises from volleyball, but even in season they didn't do too too much for me. Any good core exercise tips or ideas that have worked for anyone else? I have a realistic time span for this, and I will be very dedicated. Also, I wasn't taught from a young age and even to today to eat vegetables. I am a very picky eater. I plan on eating smaller, healthy portions and snacking on fruit during the day. However, I'd like to discipline myself to eat better, and to eat vegetables/ salad. Anyone have any advice on how to do so? I'm serious about my weight loss and I need all the advice I can get. Thanks!

Well first of all drop the idea of just cardio. Cardio is good for burning fat, but you MUST workout with weights if you ever want to shed the fat. That's because muscle burns much more calories in your body by way of just being there. Also when you lift weights, your body burns calories for up to entire day afterwards because it's trying to heal and repair your muscles. As far as cardio, mix in some high intensity intervals. These are great for calories burning because a good interval workout can be even more effective at burning calories. Similar to the after burn you get with weight lifting, an intense interval session will have you burning calories well into the next day because the intense workout will break down muscle similar to a weight session. Take, for instance, a long distance runner vs a sprinter. Who's lean, has low body fat percentage and just looks healthier? I'd recommend 2 days of weight training with some cardio afterwards and 2 days of interval training with some light cardio afterwards. Something like Monday - upper body with a mile or two jog, Tuesday - 8 100m sprints with a mile or two jog, etc As far as diet, there are no real tips to eating healthier than thinking of how bad you want to lose weight. Here are a few things, though. Eat as soon as you wake up to get your metabolism going. A lot of people will say workout first then eat, but if you do that, your body will just break down muscle to keep itself going and we don't want that! Another thing is eat every 2-3 hours. This ensures your metabolism is always going at full burn and will help burn calories. Lastly, pick a day of the week and throw all your rules out of the window. Eat McDonalds, order a pizza, whatever. This helps stick to your diet plan during the week almost like rewarding yourself, and also because you're eating more calories than your body is used to, it will actually burn more calories for the next few days because it anticipates that you'll keep eating at that level. But since you'll be back to eating a normal level of food, you'll burn even more calories on top of that
