I am sure you are aware that your current BMI is 36.3 making you around 70lbs overweight. This sort of level of weight loss generally needs careful medical supervision, which is not as readily available as it should be. You need access to a dietitian and a trainer. In some areas both are available on the NHS. If I was talking to a patient under these circumstances, I might consider the only safe, prescribeable aid, orlistat, at least on a trial basis as well. I would also be looking at perhaps a 3 year plan. In my view I would seek out a GP sympathetic to helping those with medically important levels of obesity, but being careful to steer clear of pull pushers as well. |

Try aiming to lose 2 or 3 pounds a week. Its a realistic and achievable goal. |

The standard weight loss is a pound a week. This allows your body to adjust to the weight loss so that your metabolism doesn't become wonkey and will also reduce sagging in the skin. I would however suggest that at 15 stone 8 that 2 pounds a week would be acceptable for the first 2 stone then drop it down to 1 pound a week. This will help you get fitter quicker. Glad to help. |

A healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week. |

If you go and try to lose all your extra weight in 2-3 months it will come back.. almost guaranteed. You need to start slow... 1-2 pounds a week is healthy and wont throw your body into shock. You have to understand that shows like the biggest loser where people are losing 10 pounds a week is extremely rare and not normal. Those people are monitored and are on strict diets. if you want something to work for you and want to keep it off, you need to make a lifestyle change that will allow you to safely lose up to 2 pounds a week and keep it off. start with walking 30 minutes a day and eating balanced meals low in calories. Once you feel healthier incorporate a higher intensity cadio exercise like jogging, biking, or swimming. Once this gets boring and you feel even healthier and your lungs and muscles have started to strengthen try a cardio step class or a spin class. Keep in mind you dont have to lose a substantial amount of weight for your muscles to have strengthened... Push yourself because as long as you are still working within a comfort level your body isnt doing crap...it needs to be pushed to gain muscle and burn those calories. Good luck!! |

1 kg or 2-3 pounds / week is the maximum you should realistically aim for - any more won't be sustainable. Eat an absolute minimum of 1400 good quality calories / day (like, not from chocolate and cereal lol but pleanty of fresh fruit and veg and lots of protien), and aim for at least 1 hour exercise / day. When setting your goals you should look at something you can control like 'I'm going to walk home from work every day this week' rather than something you can't, like 'I'm going to lose 3 pounds this week' - that way you will be able to have control over if you achieve them or not. The other thing I think really helps is to keep a diary of every thing you eat, drink and exercise so that you can more easily see where you could improve. Hope that helps - good luck xxx |

I would say 1-2lb a week. i used to be really big and i was a size 24, i went on a strict diet and was losing like 7lb every week. the weight dropped off me and i went to a size 12 by eating healthy and hitting the gym. however i didnt give my body time to adjust and as soon as i ate anything like a treat and miss the gym the weight started piling back on. i am now back up to a size 16-18 and i am now dieting and excersising the way i should have been at the start byt trying to lose no more than 2lb a week. good luck. |
